ICASA 2011 aimed to mobilize African leaders, partners and communities to increase ownership, commitment and support to HIV/AIDS relief. The forum promoted exchange of knowledge, skills and consolidation of experiences and best practices in Africa and around the globe to scale up evidence-based response to HIV/AIDS/STIs, TB and Malaria.
SCMS was successful in having several abstracts accepted for the 16th International Conference on Aids in Africa (ICASA)! Check out four outstanding posters and a PowerPoint presentation showcasing how SCMS supports the theme: “Own, Scale-up and Sustain.”

December 3-4, 2011 in Los Angeles, California Theme: Building human capacity and adopting technology to better manage health care systems
This year's Global Health Supply Chain Summit focused on human capacity building and high impact interventions to improve the performance of health care systems and supply chains. Participants shared plans to translate available knowledge to action to create change and improve health care delivery in low income countries where resources are limited. SCMS presented on introducing logistics and supply chain models into pre-service training for health professionals, citing examples from six of our focus countries.
Theme: Healthy Communities Promote Healthy Minds and Bodies
The APHA Annual Meeting & Exposition is the oldest and largest gathering of public health professionals in the world, attracting more than 13,000 national and international physicians, administrators, nurses, educators, researchers, epidemiologists, and related health specialists. APHA's meeting program addresses current and emerging health science, policy, and practice issues in an effort to prevent disease and promote health. SCMS presented the abstract titled, "Pressure Points: Impacting the Future of ARV Pricing and Availability" during the "Global Pharmaceutical Issues" session.
Theme: Achieving positive impact in the global health landscape
Over 200 participants attended UNITAID's Third Consultative Forum. The forum was held to discuss challenges in treatment prevention and diagnosis of HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria. Topics ranged from using a market approach to achieve public health impact, to ensuring more countries implement the air ticket tax, to sharing views and experiences from UNITAID's five years of experience. On day two SCMS presented "Ensuring access to medicines: Practical challenges in supply chain management."
Theme: Capacity building interventions leading to country ownership and sustainability which contribute to improved efficiencies and effectiveness of HIV/AIDS programs, outcomes or impact.
This meeting was designed to develop a closer partnership and dialog with implementing partners on key timely issues with a focus on capacity building and the links to country ownership and sustainability. Two of SCMS’s submitted abstracts were accepted for presentation - a significant achievement considering only 20 abstracts were accepted for the event.
